From the Pastor’s Desk …
As 2023 dawns, our St. James justice banner hangs once again from our tower. It proclaims the words (above) of Amos the prophet.
One area of justice we will explore this month is how to create healthier relationships with our Jewish and Muslim neighbors. We have asked guest speaker Barbara Campbell to present the theme of her book, Worldly Wisdom & Foolish Grace: Lessons from Abraham’s Tent. She will join us on Sunday, January 8th, 15th, and 29th to present at our Open Space adult education class.
On Sunday, January 15th we will welcome eight new members into our St. James ministry. Some are already active in supporting our five-day a week work with the houseless.
This new year, digest daily the words of Dr. King inscribed on our Portland Federal Courthouse building:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.”
–Pastor David
