Contemplative Prayer at St. James

First and Third Saturday mornings, 9:30am

Saturday Schedule 9:30-11:00am on Zoom:

The 2025-2026 Contemplative Prayer group will reconvene on September 20th …

Contemplative Prayer will resume our Saturday Zoom meetings twice monthly on September 20th and continuing on the first and third Saturdays each month at 9:30-11:00am. Zoom links are sent out in advance. Please let Susan McBerry know of your interest in this group for the link and other details.

These gatherings are devoted to nurturing contemplative practice and a deeper life. Reach out to Susan McBerry for Zoom registration and more information. No experience necessary. All are welcome.

Some who join these gatherings are experienced in contemplative prayer and meditation, but many are very new to it all. All you need is a desire to surrender. Thomas Merton put it this way:

“In prayer, we discover what we already have … Everything has been given to us in Christ. All we need is to experience what we already possess. The trouble is we aren’t taking the time to do so. If we really want prayer, we’ll have to give it time. We must slow down to a human tempo and we’ll begin to have time to listen. And as soon as we listen to what’s going on, things will begin to take shape by themselves.”

There is an unmistakable feeling of goodwill in our virtual gatherings — participants genuinely wish each other only the very best.

It’s also important to note that caring for one’s own soul is not a selfish practice; rather, it is inherently selfless. Join us.

New members are always welcome. Please join us as you are able for prayer, both silent and spoken.

“Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.”
—Soren Kierkegaard

You are invited to consider a contemplative practice with the Contemplative Prayer group who gather via Zoom to pray, learn, and share through silence and breath prayer. Participants often find that it is in the stillness and the silence of meditation that they become centered in the presence of God and become more open to the work of the Spirit within. Contact Susan McBerry for the Zoom link. Meetings are the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9:30 to 11:00am.

Anyone interested in contemplative listening to God is invited to join us. We spend time in silence, in reading sacred texts, and praying for the world, each other and ourselves.

Taking time to remove oneself from the noise of daily life is a gift you can give yourself.
