Feeding the Hungry
Jul 18 @ 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

For more than a year now, St. James members have partnered with Pastor Bruce Arnold in distributing a meal to those in need. As we do what we can to help our unsheltered neighbors — we have conversation, build relationships and learn about particular needs.

Five days a week — every weekday (Monday through Friday) at 11:30am in the Park Blocks in front of our building — we bring boxes of food and needed items to those who gather steps from our door. We offer protein drinks and protein bars, fruit, cup-a-soup, bottled water, new socks, and hygiene items. In addition, we pick up donated food items from a local Fred Meyer and distribute those too.

You have read about city sanctioned “sweeps” that remove the houseless and tents from our sidewalks. New shelters are also opening, offering a safe environment. In the midst of these changes we continue to provide food and needed items to those in our neighborhood.

Due to your generous financial gifts to the “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund” we purchased two dozen warm coats for our houseless neighbors. We distributed these coats on the South Park blocks and to our houseless neighbors who attended the spaghetti dinner in the Pioneer Chapel on Friday, December 16th.

Our St. James Social Ministry continues to purchase items thanks to your faithful offerings to St. James.

The 2023-2024 Contemplative Prayer group will reconvene in September.

Saturday Schedule 9:30-11:00am on Zoom:

September 2nd and 16th …

October 7th and 21st …

November 4th and 18th …

December 2nd and 16th …

February 3rd and 17th …

March 2nd and 16th …

April 6th and 20th …

May 4th and 18th …

Contact Susan McBerry for the link to the meetings.

You are invited to consider a contemplative practice with the Contemplative Prayer group who gather via Zoom to pray, learn, and share through silence and breath prayer. Participants often find that it is in the stillness and the silence of meditation that they become centered in the presence of God and become more open to the work of the Spirit within. Contact Susan McBerry for the Zoom link. Meetings are the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9:30 to 11:00am.

Taking time to remove oneself from the noise of daily life is a gift you can give yourself.

Anyone interested in contemplative listening to God is invited to join us. We spend time in silence, in reading sacred texts, and praying for the world, each other and ourselves.

For information about this group, contact Susan McBerry or the St. James front office.

He graduated from Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design in 1986. Warren paints Southern California inspirations and commissioned paintings honoring impressionist landscapes and street scenes from his clients’ treasured memories. For this exhibit, he has chosen scenes from Portland to highlight.

You can meet Warren at the reception held in his honor on May 19th at 6:00pm just after the Jazz Vespers Service. We are hoping for a large turnout to show our appreciation for exhibiting his paintings at St. James.

Feeding the Hungry
Jul 29 @ 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

James.
