June 7: Serving Life
Prisoners inside the maximum security prison in Angola, Louisiana are the worst of the worst… rapists, kidnappers, and murderers. The average sentence is more than 90 years long, which means that many inmates will live and die inside the prison. This film documents an extraordinary hospice program where hardened criminals care for their dying fellow inmates. In doing so, they embark on a journey that may end in personal rehabilitation, redemption, and forgiveness.
July 5: I Am: the Documentary
After Tom Shadyac, creative force behind “Ace Ventura” and “Liar Liar” becomes incapacitated after a cycling accident; he recovers with a new sense of purpose. He steps in front of the camera determined to share his own awakening to his prior life of excess and greed, and to investigate how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and walk in the world by asking two questions: what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better?
Aug 5: Papers
“Papers” is the story of undocumented youth and the challenges they face as they turn 18 without legal status. There are approximately 2 million undocumented children who were born outside the U.S. and raised in this country. These are young people who were educated in American schools, hold American values, know only the U.S. as home and who, upon high school graduation, find the door to their future slammed shut.
