Holy Week this year promises to be one unlike any other Holy Week at St. James as we commemorate the passion of Christ and celebrate his resurrection with our Christian partners from St. Michael’s.  Throughout the week we will have shared services with separate communion, as has become the practice here.  We hope that everyone will join us in this most holy and joyful time.

St. John Passion Vespers
This joint service will include the traditional Good Friday Passion reading from the Gospel of St. John presented with readers and selections from Bach’s St. John Passion for choir, soloists, and orchestra.  The St. James Bach Choir is joined by a professional orchestra of strings, oboes, flute, and portative organ, and by soloists, Catherine Van der Salm (soprano), Laura Thoreson (alto), and Kevin Walsh (baritone) with choruses, arias, and chorales from Bach’s great St. John Passion.

Easter Vigil Saturday, March 26th, 7:30pm:

The Vigil service begins with lighting of the Paschal candle in the St. James courtyard and candle procession into the darkened sanctuary.  Traditional Vigil readings and responsive psalms sung by cantors and congregation in a musical setting by Tim Nickel commissioned for St. James for handbells, cantors, and congregation.  The traditional readings will be complemented by Easter Vigil artwork of St. James Visual Artists group.

Easter Sunday Festive Eucharist, March 27th, 9:30am:

A service rich in congregational hymn singing and music for oboe, choir, and organ.
