Christmas continues in January: Bach Vespers

Bach Vespers on Sunday, January 4th at 5:00 pm will feature Bach’s Christmas Oratorio Part IV, which was composed for New Year’s Day, the day of the Naming of Jesus.  Soloists Kevin Walsh (baritone), Daniel Buchanan (tenor), and Christine Welch-Elder (soprano) join the St. James Bach Choir and full chamber orchestra with strings, two French horns and two oboes.  Principal horn player of the Oregon Symphony, John Cox, will be featured.  They will all hold forth in the 4th cantata of the Oratorio (made up of six cantatas to be sung on Christmas Day and the days following through Epiphany on Jan. 6th.)  Guest organist is Jeffery Wood from Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Paul Hoffman, Seattle, is the guest homilist.  Christmas celebration continues with the singing of Praetorius’ setting of the Quempas Carol for soloists, choir, and congregation, and other carols.  Music begins at 4:50 pm.  Freewill offering.
