NEWS FROM THE ST. JAMES CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER:
Happy New Year from St. James CDC!
A fantastic holiday season was celebrated at St. James with many programs, activities, and events that were enjoyed by various classrooms. A favorite activity was a Saint Nicholas Day Celebration. Pastor Andersen told the story of Saint Nicholas to Preschool and Kindergarten groups and encouraged us to be "generous" this holiday season just as Saint Nicholas had. Pastor then asked the children to imagine what Saint Nicholas might look like with our eyes closed ... then when we opened them, Saint Nicholas was here at our school! Thank you to Jack Hammond for dressing up in the Saint Nicholas costume, and passing out oranges to all of the children.
This year St. James CDC families held a toy drive to benefit Our House of Portland. We were able to collect over 50 new toys to donate to families in need. Thank you to all families for making the holidays bright! Additionally, our Kindergarten class kept up their annual tradition of adopting a family in need to purchase gifts for the holiday season. A boy and girl of Kindergarten age is selected from a "Giving Tree" each year by our Kindergartners. As a class, our students take a trip to Lloyd Center to purchase gifts they feel the child may enjoy. At the end of the field trip, the class visits with Santa Claus!
Were looking forward to a year full of love and learning!
