The Advocacy & Justice Team's ministry within the congregation, is to assist and enable members of St. James to connect the core values of the Gospel (love, compassion, justice, forgiveness, peace, healing) with the needs and issues of our global, national, and local communities. This ministry will offer a challenging, yet safe environment in which to struggle with the societal issues that we face at this moment in history.

Architectural Review Team

Child Development Center

Provides a safe, secure environment for over 120 children, ranging from 6 weeks through kindergarten age. The Center is committed to providing a fun filled program that balances each child’s intellectual, physical, social, creative, and emotional needs. Volunteers are needed to use their special talents in music, art, crafts, story telling, cooking, fundraising and writing grants.

Foot Care Clinic

Provides low cost foot care to hundreds of low income diabetic and elderly people each month. Staffed by three Registered Nurses, the program provides people with personal care and assistance.

Hospitality Team

Koehler Faith & Health Lecture

Founded in the memory of Adam and Hulda Koehler, this ministry invites guest presenters to reflect on our response to the resurrection of Christ and the promise of bodily hope it brings to all people. Held annually during the season of Easter.
Current need: volunteers to make arrangements, assist guests at registration table, refreshments table, and the book signing table for the lecture scheduled on April 28-29, 2007.

Let the Light Shine

Library Team

The Lending and Research Library contains an extensive collection of books and resource materials donated by Pastor Farley and members of the congregation. The Library team receive, organize, catalogue, shelve and maintain the books, curriculum, CD's, videos and DVD's of the library. Current need: Chairperson, Librarians, Clerks.

Lutheran Ligaments

The Ligaments are St. James walkers who participate in the annual Portland to Coast walk relay at the end of August. To get in shape, they frequently walk on Sundays following worship. Last year the team walked in support of Lutheran Community Services by getting donations per relay mile walked.

Mutual Ministry Committee

Current needs: People who commit to prayer for and visit people with need for support through prayer, visiting, phone calls, and cards. Training will be provided.

Prayer Shawl Team

Knit or crochet a prayer shawl for people who need God’s comfort, healing, support or care. Meets as a group to create shawls, or patterns are provided for volunteers to create shawls at home to donate. Shawls are given to recipients by team members, the Pastor, or Prayer & Care Team Members.

Worship & Music Committee

The Worship & Music Committee plans and provides for the Sunday Morning Worship held in God's house in accordance with the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The committee includes the Pastor, the Minister of Music, and members of the congregation. Works closely with the Altar Guild as their function to worship is most important.
Current need: Anyone with or without experience to assist in envisioning and planning worship. We always welcome people to serve as Acolytes, Assisting Ministers, Cantors, Crucifers, Bible and Torch Bearers, Ushers, Greeters, Lectors, and Sunday Administrators. You will receive training!
