10th Anniversary St. James Bach Cantata Vespers

Celebrate two anniversaries at the first Bach Cantata of the 2015-16 season on Sunday, October 25th at 5:00pm.  Bach’s Cantata 76 “Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen!” (Exult in God in every land!) for soprano and trumpet solos starts off the 10th anniversary St. James cantata season.  This particular cantata was also chosen to celebrate St. James 125th Anniversary.  Soprano Christine Welch Elder and Oregon Symphony principal trumpet Jeffrey Work are the featured soloists.  The St. James Bach choir will also sing a Magnificat by Heinrich...

Ascension Day Cantata

Sunday May 10 at 5:00 pm will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s thrilling Ascension Day Cantata No. 43 “Gott fähret auf mit Jauchzen” (God Goes Up with Jubilation).  Vocal soloists include Catherine Van der Salm, Laura Thoreson, Byron Wright, and Kevin Walsh.  They join with the St. James Bach Choir and Orchestra with three trumpets, two oboes, strings, and tympani.  Prelude music includes Telemann’s Three Trumpet Concerto and begins at 4:50 pm.  Invite friends and family to attend this final Bach Cantata Vesper of the 2014-15...

Ash Wednesday, this coming February 18th, initiates the rich Lenten Season at St. James and in our neighboring churches.  Liturgies for Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion will take place at noon in the Pioneer Chapel and at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary. Christmas continues in January:  Bach Vespers
