Holy Week 2016

Holy Week this year promises to be one unlike any other Holy Week at St. James as we commemorate the passion of Christ and celebrate his resurrection with our Christian partners from St. Michael’s.  Throughout the week we will have shared services with separate communion, as has become the practice here.  We hope that everyone will join us in this most holy and joyful time. Christmas in January 2016!

BACH CANTATA — Weinachtsoratorium, BWV 248 Part V — Sunday, January 10th at 5:00pm — Bach’s Christmas Oratorio Part V composed for the first Sunday in the New Year.  Soloists Christine Welch-Elder, Laura Thorson, Les Gree and Kevin Walsh will join the St. James Bach choir and an orchestra of strings and two oboes d’amore in this cantata based on the Gospel reading on the Flight to Egypt.  The congregation will sing the traditional Quempas Carol with choirs and orchestra.  Pre-service music begins at 4:50.  Freewill offering.  A reception in the Pioneer Chapel follows the...

Advent Midweek Soup Suppers & Worship:  Gather with us at 6:45pm for soup & 7:30pm for worship during the Wednesdays in Advent. 10th Anniversary St. James Bach Cantata Vespers

Celebrate two anniversaries at the first Bach Cantata of the 2015-16 season on Sunday, October 25th at 5:00pm.  Bach’s Cantata 76 “Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen!” (Exult in God in every land!) for soprano and trumpet solos starts off the 10th anniversary St. James cantata season.  This particular cantata was also chosen to celebrate St. James 125th Anniversary.  Soprano Christine Welch Elder and Oregon Symphony principal trumpet Jeffrey Work are the featured soloists.  The St. James Bach choir will also sing a Magnificat by Heinrich Schuetz and Benjamin Britten’s “Jubilate...

4 X 4 Plus Concerts on 4 Fridays in August 2015 at St. James
